Goldman Sachs made a splash by announcing what it called a “game-changing” credit card with Apple. Five years later, the partnership appears to have fizzled and Apple is reportedly looking  for a new card partner.

While the talks are early and could falter, the move could mean that the country's largest credit card issuer may be about to grow even larger.

Reports say the New York banks are in triangulated talks with Apple to shift management of Apple Card accounts--and their $17 billion in outstanding high-risk consumer debt.

Josh Schiffrin, Goldman Sachs Group Inc.’ global head of trading strategy, was promoted to chief strategy officer and head of financial risk for global banking and markets at the firm, according to a memo seen by Bloomberg.

The new role is an extension of his current responsibilities, which will now include overseeing the financial risk team.
