CHICAGO (WGN) — Chicagoans who live in the city’s West Pullman neighborhood pulled up to find their neighborhood grocery store closed for business this week. “I was here a few days ago and I noticed it was empty,” Ebony Williams said.

Meanwhile, the Batavia-based company opened a Forest Park location last week as it continues a national expansion plan, announced earlier this year.

A year after assuring the community of its commitment to the neighborhood, Aldi closed its West Pullman location on Sunday, according to 21st Ward Alderman Ronnie Mosley.

Ald. Ronnie Mosley (21st) said the closure is a breaking of a promise that Aldi would remain in the neighborhood.
