Indian opposition leader Arvind Kejriwal picked Delhi minister Atishi to replace him as chief minister of the capital territory on Tuesday, allowing him to focus on winning a fresh mandate in elections due next year after getting bail in a graft case.

Chief minister-designate Atishi on Friday urged the people of Delhi to choose Arvind Kejriwal to prevent a BJP government from increasing power tariffs in the national capital, assuring that she would protect them during the next four months.

Delhi's Lt Governor V K Saxena proposed September 21 for the swearing-in of Atishi as the new Chief Minister. The AAP announced Arvind Kejriwal's resignation and his move to live like a commoner. The swearing-in ceremony is expected to be a low-key affair due to the circumstances surrounding Kejriwal's resignation.
