Alabama is one of only three states that does not allow early voting. After an Election Day that saw long lines, some GOP lawmakers are saying they support a look into having early voting in Alabama.

Voting rights advocates want Alabamians to be prepared for Election Day, but they said not everyone may understand what to expect at the polls or even if they have the right to vote. Advocacy groups and election officials have been working to get that information to the public.

In Alabama, voters use paper ballots, which are processed by optical scan machines. These machines read the marked bubbles on each ballot when they are fed into the system.
